Komatis is a British-born painter who has studied in London, at the Georgia Institute of Technology and at Stanford. For the past 25 years, he has lived in Santa Barbara, CA.
Komatis' work has been influenced by the School of London artists of the 1970's, particularly Francis Bacon, Leon Kossoff and RB Kitaj. After moving to California, Komatis was further inspired by the Bay Area figurative movement artists, David Park and Richard Diebenkorn. The influence of Mark Rothko can also be seen in the complex and deliberate backgrounds.
